Why nothing works today without virtual commissioning

Why virtual commissioning is so crucial today

Traditional commissioning of mechatronic systems can cause considerable costs and time if they don’t work as expected – and they rarely do. If promised specifications are not achieved or deadlines are not met, there is a risk of disputes with disgruntled customers, contractual penalties and subsequent, expensive adjustments to the system. This doesn’t have to be the case.

With virtual commissioning using simulation, you can avoid much of this and even save time and money.  With solutions for visualization and simulation, the costs for commissioning can be reduced by up to 75% and the quality of mechanical components, electrics and electronics can be ensured and improved in advance.

In a 4-point plan, we show why virtual commissioning is worthwhile and which aspects are decisive.

1. realistic simulations including material flow

Analyze your planned designs in virtual operation including material flow. You can observe the influence of different kinematics, components and code changes to the controls directly in the model (MiL/SiL) and thus find the optimum solution for your model. In addition, the effects of different system states on the material flow can be analyzed in the simulated model with the addition of real data.

2. The earlier the correction, the lower the costs

Perhaps the biggest advantage of virtual commissioning is that errors can be detected early – in the simulated model. This means that the design or programming can be adapted relatively easily, quickly and without major consequential costs. And: the corrections can also be tested directly in the virtual model – instead of implementing them directly with a “hot needle” and thus risking new/other errors.

3. more satisfied customers remain loyal to you for longer

Commissioning is considered a “moment of truth” – with a major impact on project evaluation and customer satisfaction. Virtual commissioning minimizes your risks and makes on-site commissioning much faster and smoother. In short: virtual commissioning creates happier, more loyal customers.

4. fast return on investment

The license costs for the machineering software and the virtual commissioning process are comparatively low, but the leverage on costs and customer satisfaction during commissioning is enormous.

Let our machineering experts advise you now on all aspects of virtual commissioning. We will help you select and implement the software and support you in integrating upstream virtual commissioning as a quality gate into your development processes and project planning.
