Investment calculation: What is the potential of using a VIBN?

01/01/2024

Many companies usually only use virtual commissioning “selectively”. However, there is immense potential behind the use of virtual commissioning, which – once identified – brings enormous technical and economic benefits to companies.

Machineering has already gone through the entire analysis process together with a customer and the potential identified is already being fully exploited. In the first step, the special machine manufacturer with around 700 employees and an annual turnover of 140 million euros carried out an inventory and determined key process figures. The machineering experts then developed a customer-specific concept with a set of rules for the use of simulation. This shows the positive effects that the use of virtual commissioning will have.

One year after the successful implementation of the iPhysics simulation software, the same key figures were determined again, allowing the actual savings achieved to be quantified. The customer was able to save a total of 2.5 million euros across all areas of the company. Around two thirds of this was achieved by increasing employee productivity, securing concepts at an early stage and avoiding activities such as trouble shooting. Around 26% of the savings were achieved by improving quality and the associated reduction in customer complaints.

The overall investment calculation shows that the relatively low costs of virtual commissioning are offset by the significant increase in efficiency in many areas of the company. With potential savings of around EUR 1.7 million, the costs for the initial investment are amortized after just 3 months.

In the following blog posts, the biggest potential drivers of productivity, quality and time are explicitly addressed. There is also a comprehensive white paper and a brochure on this topic.
