Today’s automation solutions have to master a multitude of challenges. This requires powerful software that works efficiently, flexibly and reliably. The use of software should be as cost-efficient as possible.
But how many licenses are really needed in a company? How long are paid licenses unused? Which employees need a license for a particular software? We at machineering are aware of this problem and have decided to offer our customers floating licenses with immediate effect.
Definition of floating
But what does floating mean? With a floating license, it is no longer the number of installations that is decisive for the installation of clients, but the number of users who work with the program at the same time (floating license).
This means that you can install the clients on any number of computers within a company within the scope of the license model purchased, without having to purchase a license for each computer or user. The number of client licenses required depends on how many users are working with the software at the same time.
Licensing models
Every company requires individual models. Therefore, these licenses are available in three variants.
Variant 1 uses the classic node-locked model. This node-locked license is bound to the respective workstation computer and is therefore activated directly for this specific workstation computer.
The second variant is pseudo floating. Here, an employee uses a free license on their own desktop. Once logged in, the employee can use the license, work with it for as long as required and actively log out again at the end of the working day, thus releasing the license for other employees at other workstations or locations.
As it has been shown in practice that the log-off process is often forgotten and the license is thus unused but occupied, machineering offers a third variant, the genuine floating license model. Here, a user logs on from any workstation, uses industrialPhysics and the license is automatically released again when the computer is switched off.
This new license model – especially variants 2 and 3 – is aimed at companies with several locations. For example, an employee in Germany can use the industrialPhysics license during the day, release it by logging off or switching it off, and a colleague in America, for example, can log on and work with the same license when they start work.
