New business models with iPhysics

01/01/2024

How add-ons can further accelerate commissioning

The classic commissioning of machine systems can cause considerable costs and time expenditure.

Any company can save time with virtual commissioning using simulation. Studies show that the costs for commissioning can be reduced by up to 75% and the quality of mechanical components, electrics and electronics can be ensured and improved in advance.

The iPhysics simulation software is used by many mechanical engineering companies and machine operators. Whether for virtual commissioning or as a digital twin for real-time monitoring during operation, green automation, artificial intelligence (AI) – the benefits are impressive.

Creating new business models

However, iPhysics not only scores points in the “classic” areas of application, but is also an important piece of the puzzle when it comes to new business models.

Jan Windmüller from the design office Conwex uses iPhysics for his portfolio. Together with his team, Windmüller has implemented an idea that has never been seen before. With his #Starter Kits, he offers companies new ideas, innovative implementations and supports the team in the design and realization of new machines and processes. Conwex comes into play when design phases take too long or when an outside perspective is simply needed. And now also iPhysics. Jan Windmüller has decided to integrate the simulation software into his starter kits as standard. After a thorough search for the right simulation tool, the Managing Director ultimately opted for iPhysics.

However, iPhysics not only scores points for “classic” applications, but is also an important piece of the puzzle for new business models.

The first projects that directly put iPhysics to the test are already being implemented: A printing press for hardcover books is currently being designed. The challenge is to simulate not only the machine, but also the books, not just as a package, but as a moving element. “With a little help from the machineering team, we managed that too. My customer was delighted,” says Windmüller.

The first virtual moving models created with iPhysics are already convincing in sales meetings.

The basics of the planned machines are discussed. Detailed planning begins with the help of the extensive robot and component library, which is available as standard with iPhysics. Various options can be easily tested and verified, and the client can be taken along every step of the way.

Convex currently offers support right through to programming. Windmüller plans to take the next step by mid-2022 and be able to supply companies with machines that have been commissioned completely virtually. “We want our customers to be able to start building the machine straight away. Thanks to iPhysics, we can use virtual commissioning to plan, program, test and virtually finalize the optimally designed machine,” says Windmüller.

We are looking forward to further cooperation.
